Holy Cow it's happening!!

Oh my! What a weekend I've had! Next weekend I'm planning to take a load of stuff up to my parents' house and so I've spent a big chunk of the weekend packing (and trying not to get scared that the storage unit I've reserved is too small... it will be OK I'm sure...!!). Anyway, in the whole action-reaction way of things I decided I needed to do exciting stuff as a counter-balance for the not exciting stuff. My lovely friend Kate let me know this week that the BA seat sale was on and so I got super-excited about booking South America flights. But of course, the Law of Sod was in place for this and so my flights weren't in the sale! But after considerable investigation, I've discovered that with judicious use of Avios points I can get my flight out to Buenos Aires and flight back from Rio for the grand total of £523.17!! A-MAY-ZING!!! So I've booked the flight out to Buenos Aires and have a wait a few days for the Rio leg (too far in the future to book at the moment).

Well, of course, then I was on a roll! So I went ahead and booked the European flights too! I'm flying out from Luton to Budapest on the 6th September and then I fly back from Sofia to Birmingham on the 7th December. I'm flying with Wizz Air. Not overly hopeful with a name like that but hell, they're short flights and flying out I'll be excited to start my trip, and flying back I'll be excited to see my family and friends so I figure I'll cope!

BA have very helpfully introduced a countdown clock to their app and so between that and my countdown app, as of tonight, the following apply:

End of acting up job = 33 days
Last day at work = 54 days
Flight to Budapest = 73 days
Flight back from Sofia = 165 days
Flight to Buenos Aires = 198 days

I'm not putting in the return flight because a) as I said earlier, I don't have that fight booked yet; and b) I may decide not to come home ;-)

...or so the saying goes. But sometimes, being amongst familiar does exactly the opposite. Today is one of those days.  I'm currently in Györ; I got the train here from Tata. I had planned to get the train from Tovaroskert which is the station that was closest to where I was staying the last couple of days. I'd walked there yesterday as I hadn't seen ticket office when I'd arrived (hadn't looked to be honest) so I knew where to get the ticket as I'd be cutting a bit fine wth the train I had planned to get, but when I got to the station this morning, the ticket office was closed ((I know, I should have bought it yesterday...). There were notices on the windows which I think were trying to tell you what to do in this situation but google translate converted it 'you need to deposit a son-in-law which isn't redeemable'. Entertainment on the go

At the time I started writing this blog post, according to my BA app I have 6 days, 5 hours and 26 minutes until my flight to Buenos Aires. The flight time is estimated to be 13 hours and 55 minutes and given the size of Argentina and Brazil (the two biggest countries I'm traveling around), is fairly representative of the long journeys that will be involved in my South American Adventure. To save money, around Eastern Europe I'd downgraded to the free version of Spotify to listen to some tunes, but their New Year offer of three months for 99p has meant I've splashed out and upgraded back to the Premium version (which I'll likely continue until the end of the trip depending on data/wifi availability). I'd had a playlist that I tended to listen to interspersed with various Spotify playlists and specific artists that I'd go for depending on my mood. Another great detour!

Today marks the two thirds completed milestone for my trip! I'm currently in Suceava and should be visiting the painted monasteries that this area is famed for. However, yesterday on my way to one of them, I managed to pull a muscle in my calf and after an unbelievably painful journey back to the hostel via the pharmacist for painkillers and supermarket for supplies (including frozen peas...) I've been laid up in bed resting said calf. Am gutted I'll miss the monasteries, this is why I'm here after all! But such is life and the medical advice from the lovely Shalini has been fab and it's definitely improving so hopefully I won't be hindered by my injury for too long. In case you were wondering, I did it just walking down the road. I'd slipped a few days ago and it was twinging a little and then yesterday, when crossing the road something felt like it popped in my calf and the pain was excruciating.
