Tedium and technology

So today I decided to check out storage options. Having previously looked up my storage costs I had an idea of what they would be, but following a chat with the storage companies, I now know the hidden extras! All I can say is that I think it's going to mean a few quiet days while I'm away. Boy is storage expensive! It's worked out to be almost twice what I thought. Thank heavens for contingency...
Having been a bit disappointed by this, I then (you may say foolishly) decided to check out travel insurance. Well on the whole the quotes weren't awful, the ones I could get that was. The others I couldn't get quotes online because I'm too old! They don't do them if you're over 39! I remember when I was in New Zealand on my last trip, when I was 33, someone in a hostel thought I was too old to be travelling, turns out 10 years on, so do insurance companies!
I had planned to do something fun and book my European flights but I decided not to do that until I know what my travel insurance plans are going to be. I really need to get this dull stuff out of the way so I can start doing the fun stuff!
I did start planning my technology needs though. I've decided I'll take my iPad with me as it's 3 years old now and whilst I'd be upset if anything happened to it I wouldn't be devastated and so I decided to get a keyboard and skin for it to make it easy to carry around. Should be delivered by the end of the week and will show you a picture of it when it arrives!

Familiarity breeds contempt...

...or so the saying goes. But sometimes, being amongst familiar does exactly the opposite. Today is one of those days.  I'm currently in Györ; I got the train here from Tata. I had planned to get the train from Tovaroskert which is the station that was closest to where I was staying the last couple of days. I'd walked there yesterday as I hadn't seen ticket office when I'd arrived (hadn't looked to be honest) so I knew where to get the ticket as I'd be cutting a bit fine wth the train I had planned to get, but when I got to the station this morning, the ticket office was closed ((I know, I should have bought it yesterday...). There were notices on the windows which I think were trying to tell you what to do in this situation but google translate converted it 'you need to deposit a son-in-law which isn't redeemable'. Entertainment on the go

At the time I started writing this blog post, according to my BA app I have 6 days, 5 hours and 26 minutes until my flight to Buenos Aires. The flight time is estimated to be 13 hours and 55 minutes and given the size of Argentina and Brazil (the two biggest countries I'm traveling around), is fairly representative of the long journeys that will be involved in my South American Adventure. To save money, around Eastern Europe I'd downgraded to the free version of Spotify to listen to some tunes, but their New Year offer of three months for 99p has meant I've splashed out and upgraded back to the Premium version (which I'll likely continue until the end of the trip depending on data/wifi availability). I'd had a playlist that I tended to listen to interspersed with various Spotify playlists and specific artists that I'd go for depending on my mood. Another great detour!

Today marks the two thirds completed milestone for my trip! I'm currently in Suceava and should be visiting the painted monasteries that this area is famed for. However, yesterday on my way to one of them, I managed to pull a muscle in my calf and after an unbelievably painful journey back to the hostel via the pharmacist for painkillers and supermarket for supplies (including frozen peas...) I've been laid up in bed resting said calf. Am gutted I'll miss the monasteries, this is why I'm here after all! But such is life and the medical advice from the lovely Shalini has been fab and it's definitely improving so hopefully I won't be hindered by my injury for too long. In case you were wondering, I did it just walking down the road. I'd slipped a few days ago and it was twinging a little and then yesterday, when crossing the road something felt like it popped in my calf and the pain was excruciating.
